What is a required field?

Required Fields is an additional service that makes specified data fields/properties mandatory to complete.

Required fields ensure that users provide specific information, such as the reported time on a workorder. They can also make certain fields mandatory for jobs, spare parts, and other elements. Note that MaintMaster support must enable the Required Fields function before you can use it.

How to Configure Required Fields
In this example, we’ll make reporting time mandatory when closing out a workorder.

  1. Open System Settings.

  2. Go to "Modifiers"

  3. Select "Required Field".

  4. Click "Add" to create a new rule, requiring users to fill in a specific field.

The image shows how to add a new required fields rule.

5. Choose where in the system the rule will apply. In this case, select the Item type “Job.”

6. Specify which job category the rule applies to. If you select any, it covers all job categories.

7. Under Field Name, select the field you want to make mandatory. In this example, choose Times.

8. Define the condition for the status. You can pick:

  • “=” (Equal to)
  • “>” (Greater than)
  • “<” (Less than)
    In this case, select “>”.

9. Choose the status Done.

10. Enter the message that should appear if the required field is not filled.

11. Decide how that message (from step 10) will be displayed. For this example, select Cancellation message.

12. Specify the reference value (“Value must be”). In this case, select “>” (Greater).

13. Enter the value it must be greater than. In this case enter , “0.”

14. Click OK.

The image shows how required fields are configured.

With this setup:

  • If a job (step 5), regardless of category (step 6), has a status (step 8) that is greater than Done (step 9), the Reported Time (step 7) must exceed (step 12) 0 (step 13).

  • In other words, the reported time field must not be left blank.
